Hardik Pandya made his debut in the first One Day International of the India Vs New Zealand ODI Series 2016. Although he seems to be around for a long time, this young all-rounder hadn’t yet made his One Day debut before this match. After the impressive performances in the Asia Cup and World T-20, Hardik had already been sounding like a familiar name in the Indian team, but the youngster couldn’t find any place in the team as he performed badly in the IPL and then injured himself too.

It was a special moment for him, as he was given his first One Day cap by Kapil Dev, the legend. He became the man of the match for his bowling performance as he took three wickets.

Along with Ashwin and Jadeja, Mohammad Shami was also chosen to have a rest. Amit Mishra, Axar Patel, and Jaspreet Bumrah will fill in their shoes for the series.

Incidentally, the famous cricketer and former Indian Opener, Virender Sehwag will be celebrating his birthday in Delhi on the same day. He isn’t doing commentary in the One Day Series, but it will be interesting to see if he will show up during the match in the stadium on that day.

With the start of the One-Day Series, some of the TV commercials were also aired, starring the cricketers, Kohli, Dhoni and Rahane in the ‘Nayi Soch’ video. This initiative by Star, shows these team India cricketers wearing their jersey with their mother’s name printed on it, signifying that one’s mother can also represent them. These ads are rather heart touching.

By the end of this India Vs New Zealand ODI Series 2016, MS Dhoni is the second on the list of the most number of games played like a captain. After the first ODI, he is just one match away to equal the record of the former Australian team captain, Allan Border, who has played 178 matches. At the top of the list sits Ricky Ponting, with 230 matches as the captain, under his belt.

It will also be interesting to see how the New Zealand team comes back from the defeat of test series as the shorter format will allow them for more chances of a win. The fans will also be expecting the comeback Suresh Raina eagerly. Currently, the left-hander is down with a fever.
